Shawn Craver is a traditional Appalachian fiddler, singer, and songwriter. Shawn is a recent mainstage performer at the Kansas State Fiddle Championship and maintains a busy schedule based out of Wichita, Kansas where he is founder of World Fiddle Day Wichita. Notable past performances include Newman University, North Texas Irish Festival Dallas Texas, Sioux River Folk Festival, and Mankato State University.
A consummate performer, twenty years ago West Virginia’s Coolfont Foundation described Shawn’s music as, “Tradition with modern virtuosity.” In 2018 The Hutchinson News wrote, “Appalachian native musician, multi-instrumentalist, and singer of traditional songs learned at the knee of his grandmother in a place called Crabtree hollow….Be sure to see Shawn every chance you can…” In 2021 Ad Astra Books of Salina said, “…Craver has been on Ad Astra’s stage in a number of different manifestations of bands over the years and we are super digging the Appalachian music…”
Shawn Craver plays traditional Appalachian fiddle music and sings traditional songs best suited for formal stages at universities, schools, and cultural events. Performances include humorous stories, traditional American folk songs, and Shawn’s original music as well.
Students studying music appreciation, folk music, or ethnomusicology benefit from Shawn’s lifetime knowledge of Appalachian lore and music.
A lifetime performer and teacher, Shawn provides fiddle workshops and folk song workshops for students wishing to learn traditional music.
