Cowley Community College gears up to offer training

Cowley Community College, in cooperation with Rubbermaid, is launching a new nine-week training program to quickly get certified technicians into the company’s workforce. This innovative project through the Kansas Department of Commerce connects economic and workforce development by matching training to jobs that are available now. The new Workforce AID (Aligned with Industry Demand) initiative: Right Training. Right Job. NOW, helps both job seekers and employers.

“This Workforce AID project supports a robust Kansas economy by preparing workers with the skills and credentials required by business,” said Kansas Acting Commerce Secretary Antonio Soave. “We are excited to partner with Rubbermaid to continue to develop the workforce Kansas companies need.”

With help from Commerce, Cowley College will deliver training that includes hands-on experience with various components of machine technology. The training curriculum was developed under the guidance of Rubbermaid in Winfield, Kansas and graduates of the program are prepared for a process technician position with Rubbermaid. Up to 12 participants will have an opportunity to earn a nationally recognized credential as well as 13 college credits upon successful completion of the training.

“We have teachers from math, business and technical education who are going to be working with Rubbermaid’s very capable team,” Dr. Harold Arnett, Cowley College vice president of academic affairs said. “I genuinely believe we’re going to improve lives with this training. With nine weeks of intense training, some very fortunate people are going to be able to nearly double their income capacity.”

Contact the Cowley County Workforce Center for information about enrolling in this program at (316) 771-6718. For a limited time, funding from the Kansas Department of Commerce is available for adults who qualify.
